QUADRATIC FUNCTION 

GRADE : VIII 

 Learning objectives: 
1. To know the formula of the Quadratics Function
2. To sketch the Graph of Quadratics Function in the Excel Program

Material
I. The Formula of Quadratics Function f : x  ax2 + bx + c , written by : f(x) = ax2 + bx + c, with a  0.
II. To Sketch the Graph of Quadratics Function in the Excel Program The following procedure are to draw the sketch of the Quadratics Function in the Excel Program.
i. Open the Microsoft Excel,
ii. In A1 box type the title of the function, example “ f(x) = x2 + 4x + 3”,
iii. In A2 box type “x” and in B2 type the formula of the function in above,
iv. In the each of the eleven boxes under A2 type numbers: -5, -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5,
v. In the B3 box type = then click A3 box then type ^2 + 4* then click A3 box then type + 3 then enter,
vi. Click B3 box then drag the cursor to the bellow boxes through the last box,
vii. To draw the sketch: block the table, then click the Insert in the Menu bar, then click XY(scatter) in the toolbar then choose Scatter with the Smooth Lines and Markers.

TASK
Draw the Sketch of the following Quadratics Funtion by followed the procedure above. Work each Function in the different sheet. Then give me your comment about the topics in my blog. Save your work on your own computer, I will check your work at school.
1. f(x) = x2 – 2x – 3 ; the value of x are {-5, -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5}
2. f(x) = x2 + 4x – 21 ; the value of x are {-8, -7, -6, -5, -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5}
3. f(x) = –x2 + 2x +3 ; the value of x are {-3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5}
4. f(x) = –x2 – 8x – 15 : the value of x are {-7, -6, -5, -4, -3, -2, -1, 0}

Note: You type the values of x in under A2 boxes.
